Listowel Summer Racing Festival
Listowel came alive with glamour, grace, and a splash of high-stakes fashion this past weekend, as racegoers gathered in their finest for the June Bank Holiday Festival Races.
While the turf promised action, the style stakes stole the spotlight on Sunday, June 1st, as crowds dressed to impress for the always-iconic Style Stakes Sunday.
Among the kaleidoscope of colour and creativity, a look of striking simplicity took home the title. Siobhan Kennedy, from Tournafulla, Limerick, was crowned Best Dressed Lady. She turned heads in a full-length black and white jumpsuit from Pure Boutique paired with a statement hat rented from Anne Marie at Hats Amore. A long-time attendee of Listowel Races (15 years and counting!), Siobhan’s timeless ensemble finally earned her the win, proving that perfect styling pays off.
Siobhan’s sleek monochrome moment caught the eye of none other than Don O’Neill, world-renowned designer and judge for the day. As part of her prize, she received a €500 cash award, exclusive Inish Designs earrings by Mary Mulhall, and a curated gift bag from McGuire’s Pharmacy.
Also receiving style honours were joint runners-up Sheila Casey, of Brosna, and Aine Wall, of Tralee – both of whom impressed with their unique blends of boutique finds, local design, and personal flair. Sheila stunned in a Rose and Crown Boutique dress and a Teresa Linehan headpiece, while Aine styled a suit from Canella Lane, a Cathriona King headpiece, and a fabulous charity shop bag that had the crowd buzzing.
Don O’Neill took his time roaming the racecourse, chatting with attendees and narrowing down his finalists – nine elegant women and four impeccably dressed juniors – before bringing them on stage for a final runway moment. Each finalist shared the story behind their look, highlighting the creative process behind their race day outfits, from local designers to vintage gems and bold accessories.
And while the style took centre stage, the sunshine didn’t disappoint either. Despite forecasts, the skies held bright, adding even more sparkle to an already electric afternoon at the races.
The fashion may have wrapped for now, but Listowel’s next chapter is already on the horizon: The Listowel Races Harvest Festival, running 21st–27th September 2025, with the unmissable McElligotts Kia Ladies Day happening on Friday, 26th September.
Of course, as an Upfront Team, we have to extend a huge thank you to Helena Halpin for all her work behind the scenes on the day. The big event would never have taken place without our OG team member, Ray Stack, who put together the perfect production (as always!). Huge thanks to Brenda Daly (Secretary/Manager), Brendan, Marie and all the directors and also to Ger Mulvihill (Social Media Manager).
Now, the race is on to September—we hope to see you (and your stylish ensemble there!)
